Westland Kaas outsources its cheese production to a number of Dutch dairy cooperatives and is the owner of the brands Maaslander, Old Amsterdam, Trenta and Westlite, which have built up a strong position in both domestic and international markets. Westland has also spread its wings recently into the vegan segment through its WildWestLand brand. The job

International managerial marketing position that combines sound Dutch business acumen with having the right strategy on brands, communications and innovation. You are the ‘spider in the web’ when it comes to the managing and energising of multidisciplinary teams. It involves combining long-term brand development with short-term activity for the strategic focus country that is Germany. You are also expected to help devise the brand strategy and positioning of OA (Old Amsterdam) in Germany.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Responsible for all short-term and long-term marketing activities for the Old Amsterdam brand in Germany.

Your goal is to ensure Old Amsterdam grows in Germany in line with the strategic targets for 2021-2023

You report to:                         Marketing Lead Westland

You are in charge of the:       Junior Brand Manager Old Amsterdam Germany

You will be working with:    Sales team Germany, Old Amsterdam marketeers, creative agencies, media agency, market research agencies, R&D, Kwaliteit (Quality Assurance), Inkoop (Procurement), Trade Marketing and Finance

Scope of brand: OA Germany - sales volume (kg): 3,000,000       

Result areas and activities

  • Business Team
    • Heading up the (multidisciplinary) Business Team Germany; jointly responsible for the results, volumes, turnover and development of the OA brand in Germany
  • Portfolio & Pricing strategy
    • Portfolio optimisation
    • Identifying opportunities and threats and knowing how to translate these into a specific portfolio and pricing strategy for OA in Germany
    • Carrying out the right analyses for this and facilitating the decision-making process
  • Innovation/ product development
    • Responsible for setting up a rolling innovation funnel
    • Identifying opportunities from consumer/retail/market and translating these into new products/innovations
    • As project leader, responsible for realising innovative initiatives/ new products
  • Brand (and brand strategy) and positioning
    • Defining the brand strategy and brand positioning for OA Germany in a way that is in line with the global OA strategy/context
    • Implementing this, including by translating this into annual plans and by monitoring their execution
  • Visual identity OA Germany
    • Defining and monitoring the visual identity of OA Germany within the global OA strategy/context
    • Design development
    • Carry out design projects
  • Communication
    • Ultimate responsibility for all communication and for having the right media mix for OA in Germany, including shopfloor
    • Choosing the right channels and platforms
  • Ultimate responsibility for the drafting and managing of the Marketing Budget OA Germany
  • Data analysis and brand tracking

Qualifications and skills

  • 6-10 years of marketing experience in FMCG, Business to Consumer
  • University work level and intellectual ability; analytical and conceptual skills
  • Good command of the English language
  • Affinity with German culture and habits (consumption and shopper habits) and prepared to learn more about them
  • Speaking excellent German and having work experience in a German environment would be an advantage
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and in providing leadership
  • Experience in innovation/product development, communication & activation, including shopfloor
  • Other desirable traits: you are a leader with the drive to make a difference and a hands-on mentality, with an independent and dynamic way of working, you take responsibility and are inquisitive and disciplined. You possess interpersonal and self-reflection skills.
  • Important competences: business acumen, conceptual, creative, analytical, commerciality and the power to execute.
